How we review

How we review tools (field notes, not lab tests)

We don't run a lab. Every tool note on Tool Trainers comes from real use on jobs by Veterans Investment Group crews: what they reach for, what they complain about, and what has caused injuries or near-misses.

What "used on real jobs" means here

Used on real jobs means a working crew used the tool on real jobs: repairs, maintenance, landscaping, concrete and property work around San Diego County. It does not mean a lab, a timer or a calibrated test rig. We never claim measured results.

What we write down after a jobTask, material, battery, complaints, safety
  • The task and material
  • Whether the tool finished the job on the battery or fuel it started with
  • What the crew liked and what they complained about (weight, heat, vibration, balance, bit or chuck slip, battery life, noise)
  • Failures, repairs and warranty claims
  • Injuries and near-misses, and what we changed
  • Would they buy it again?
What we don't doNo lab, no bench rig, no invented numbers

We don't measure torque or speed, we don't time tools against each other, and we don't post scores we didn't earn. Specs come from the manufacturer, with a link. When we cite independent testers (Pro Tool Reviews, TechGearLab, ToolBoxBuzz) we name them.

Safety reportsInjuries and near-misses come first

If a tool hurt someone or nearly did, the note says what happened and what we changed. Serious product hazards are reported to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at SaferProducts.gov.

How we make moneyAffiliate links, never paid reviews

Some store links are affiliate links; as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Brands can't pay for, review or edit our notes. Each note says whether we bought the tool or a brand provided it. Affiliate disclosure.

What "★ We own it" meansOwned and used by our crews

The star on a comparison means the tool is in our trucks or shop and our crews use it on jobs. It is a fact about ownership, not a score.
